Coming together for the glory of old IU

The Indiana University Alumni Association and the Indiana University Foundation are separate organizations working side by side to advance Indiana University through engagement and philanthropy.

Anchored in history

Our shared story began in 1854, when a devastating fire swept through the Indiana University campus. In response, alumni, faculty, and friends united to rebuild—giving rise to what would become the Alumni Association and establishing a lasting tradition of collaboration, generosity, and pride. More than 170 years later, that same spirit continues to guide our work.

Together, we serve alumni, donors, and friends globally—connecting people to IU and to one another, inspiring lifelong engagement, stewarding philanthropic support, and creating impact that sustains the university for generations to come.

Our work together

While the Alumni Association and the IU Foundation operate as independent nonprofit organizations, each is guided by its own volunteer leadership, but collaborate by aligning strategies and resources to strengthen Indiana University.

Together, we are unstoppable

Indiana University has more living alumni than any other university in the United States. We’re a powerful force, making a difference all over the world.
